About This Study
- Endometriosis is a long-term condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, often causing significant pain. The Butterfly Endometriosis Studies are clinical research trials exploring whether a more extensive surgical technique could lead to better, longer-lasting pain relief for people with stage I–II endometriosis.
- We are inviting about 20 people in Auckland to take part in a research study comparing two surgical techniques: standard excision and complete posterior peritonectomy. This study will help determine whether a larger future study is possible and explore whether we can achieve longer-lasting pain relief for stage I–II endometriosis.
Who Can Join?
- Are a person with a uterus 18 – 50 years old.
- Are scheduled for a laparoscopy for pelvic pain.
- Have not had previous surgical treatment for endometriosis.
- Agree to take part in the study.
Who Cannot Join?
- Being pregnant.
- Previous removal of your uterus or ovaries.
- Suspected stage III–IV endometriosis before surgery.
Your journey in the study: A 12-Month Plan
Step 1: Screening
We'll confirm your eligibility and you will sign the consent form.
Step 2: Surgery
You'll be randomly assigned one of two surgical techniques.
Step 3: Follow-up
Online questionnaires and one extra visit after 12 months.
