π¦ Exploring a New Surgical Path
Endometriosis is a long-term condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, often causing significant pain. The Butterfly Studies are clinical research trials exploring if a more extensive surgical technique could lead to better, longer-lasting pain relief for people with stage I-II endometriosis.
We are inviting about 20 people in Auckland to help us find out if a larger trial comparing two surgical techniques (standard excision vs complete posterior peritonectomy) will be possible in the future.
You may be able to join if you:
- βοΈ Are a person with a uterus between 18 and 50 years old.
- βοΈ Are scheduled for a laparoscopy for pelvic pain.
- βοΈ Have not had previous surgical treatment for endometriosis.
- βοΈ Agree to take part in the study.
Exclusion criteria include:
- βοΈ Being pregnant.
- βοΈ Previous removal or your uterus or ovaries.
- βοΈ Suspected stage III-IV endometriosis before surgery.
